National Dialogue on Pork

Facilitation Services-National Environmental Dialogue on Pork Production/ USEPA

WRA Engineering | Tampa FloridaWRA provided program design, development and facilitation services for the establishment of best management practices and public participation in the controversy surrounding concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO) in the national pork production industry.  CAFO’s or factory farming have environmental consequences to water quality because of the amounts of manure that are produced and rudimentary techniques for cleaning up this waste.   The Dialogue developed consensus on regulatory and non-regulatory strategies for establishment of alternative strategies for environmental protection with stakeholders in the CAFO debate.  These stakeholders included the Federal Government; state agricultural and environmental experts; the environmental community; farmers; and industry representatives.   The Dialogue was convened by America’s Clean Water Foundation and sponsored by the USEPA, USDA and the National Pork Producers Council.  Dialogue recommendations were incorporated into the USEPA rules and standards for CAFOs.
