S.V. Utilities, LTD Water Use Permit Renewal, Winter Haven, Florida.

This water use permit renewal project was completed on behalf of S.V. Utilities, LTD (SVU). SVU provides potable water to three communities located on the southern shore of Lake Henry in Winter Haven, Florida. This project is located within the Southern Water Use Caution Area (SWUCA) and the area known as the Central Florida Water Initiative (CFWI). The SWUCA was designated in 1992 to address declines in aquifer levels due primarily to groundwater withdrawals and over-withdrawals within the southern portions of the Southwest Florida Water Management District and encompasses approximately 5,100 square miles, including all of DeSoto, Hardee, Manatee and Sarasota counties, and parts of Charlotte, Highlands, Hillsborough and Polk counties. The CFWI is a collaborative regional water supply endeavor to protect, conserve, and restore water resources in the area by working to craft long-term water supply solutions for the Central Florida region. Obtaining water use permits in this area is difficult due to the SWUCA and the CFWI. Based on a projected population of 1,435 in 2035 and at a compliance per capita rate of 141 gallons per capita per day, the permit renewal allows for an annual average allocation of 211,700 gallons per day (gpd), and the peak month allocation of 265,600 gpd.
