Updated Rules for Occupying Newly Constructed Commercial Retail Space in Sarasota County

Sarasota county has recently changed their rules for occupying newly constructed commercial retail space. A new business retailer cannot open under a temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO). The full CO must be received from the building department before the subject retailer can obtain their business license to operate. Previously a retailer was allowed to get their business license with just a TCO. This requires the civil engineer to be fully engaged during the construction process so the final certification package is prepared immediately following construction and accepted by the County with limited time delays. Please click the link below for the full Ordinance No. 2014-073Land Development Ordinance No. 2014-073 Effecting Bldg.
